Another great road trip took place in an early spring.
I wanted really badly to go the seaside.
But that wasn’t a good period for that, it was even raining at our beaches. (in the East)
Determined, let’s go somewhere on the map where there is sun at least.
The only area that was sunny, was the South.
Hoped in our famous road trip machine and drove off to Giurgiu.
As we were exiting Bucharest, we have this:
I didn’t realize that i left the window open.
Again, i couldn’t leave the original audio conversation.
Adrian took an instant bath.
But he recovered and got dry from the car’s heating.
Then the open road came where the colors were changing often and with such results !
Even more, on the right we had a small storm materializing, but ahead it was sunny.
Yes, we know, don’t judge.
We got to Giurgiu and we crossed it off our map.
Then we found a remote area.
And i don’t know, we got the ‘bright’ idea to try something new.
Let’s …fly !
Don’t try this at home, kids. These were done by professionals.
Then my turn.
I don’t know what to say more after what you have seen …
Nobody died and we continued to explore.
Found some signs as we were about to go home.
Bulgaria.
That’s it ! We knew we had to go, it would be our first time driving into a new country. Thus another new experience.
The same as us. (translation: “We will definitely come”.)
We only need our IDs, road tax and to pay the bridge tax. Perfect.
I forgot i didn’t activate my roaming service and someone called me exactly when we entered into the new country where i still had some signal. I thought, ah perfect we are covered.
We will be proven wrong .. more on that later.
We crossed the bridge, we presented our IDs to the border officers and all’s good.
But they notice what i had something in the backseat.
We keep these things for special activities like … this.
And i didn’t knew how to explain their purpose.
I just told him “they give color to the car…”.
Adrian was laughing again like crazy.
Filled up the car at a gas station.
Remembered i had a roadmap of Europe.
Then we realized that Bulgaria also has great beaches, the Golden Sands they call it.
So yeah, it’s a sign, we wanted the seaside, let’s go there.
Near the border, we still had signs in normal alphabet.
But as soon we got further away the stopped and only in Cyrillic was written.
Plus no phone signal anymore. Back then GPSs on phones were to early to be trustworthy and no smartphones off course.
We were f!cK.
The only familiar thing we recognized.
This magical clip, shows exactly our situation.
Enjoy.
Subtitles also included.
It appears that we were going exactly in the wrong direction !
Instead of going to the Black Sea, we were going into France.
Stopped at a local shop asked for directions and realized that we had to go back home, we are not prepared for this.
Back at the border again.
We had to pay again, but this time in Euros.
Fortunately, i had a few coins in my car.
They didn’t take credit cards.
Oh boy, that would have been ‘nice’ to be blocked in the night there, with the truckers.
We passed, then the Romanian border came.
Here, it is shown to us the fact that we either have criminal faces or that in Romania if you own an old black BMW you are inevitably discriminated and tagged as a criminal. That was exactly what happened to us.
Our border agent was convinced that there was something strange with us.
He started to check the car and everything.
Bad luck for us because i’m on a strange side already, i like to be prepared so i have a lot of stuff in my trunk.
I had an inflatable boat in my car (another fun story with this later on the blog), a lot of empty bags when i carry stuff, a lot of equipment and tools etc.
But given the circumstances, i don’t know what he thought, that we were smuggling drugs and guns.
I mean who goes to another country with no reason at all and then comes back that quickly.
We had the perfect criminal circumstances.
Of course he didn’t find anything because we had nothing to hide but he was so determined that we are so good at this that he almost took us for a cavity search.
I think even until this day he is troubled that we outsmarted him.
So yeah, more epic moments under our belt.
We laughed so hard on the way back.
These pictures show exactly that life is a continuous chaos.
By night it was superb, all around tranquility towards home.
We were alone again on the highway, and like in the movie “Book Of Eli”, the same as us, “We travel by faith, not sight”.
This became the trip’s motto.
Our car again proved its purpose, even the roof was OK after Adrian’s net weight of almost 85 Kg.
And finally the trip’s representative soundtrack was this one.
`
‘Till next time.
