Let’s continue.
Now, we had more toys at our disposal.

The first thing we did with our new car was to go on road trip - that’s the main reason we got the car.
Such a long time had passed since our last trip, that this one, still is today our longest road trip ever.
Almost 600 miles / 1000 km in 2 days.

We did this immediately after we finished the paperwork, let’s say like a post-test drive. :)
After this trip I knew that this is the car for me for life, two decades old car which simply blew my mind how it handled and run.

We never been on the Transfagarseanu and this was the perfect time to go, summer and we got our BMW, to see if it will live up to its name - The Ultimate Driving Machine

Like a tradition for every road trip I make a music CD with cherry picked tracks to fit the circumstances.
The one defining this one is:

Video selfie.

The trip was excellent so far.

More editing for fun.

And who saw “Training Day” …

Our first stop at Vidraru.

All fine and dandy but our moment of “glory” will soon come.

In our defense, kind of hungry, long drive, a little tired and it seams that we gain altitude a little too quickly and we suffered the effects of oxygen deprived. :)

So this is what happened.

I realize that the car can’t pull anymore in 3rd gear (I was under 15 mph)

I stoped the car.
Adrian’s turn. He confirms, “yeah, it doesn’t work in 4th also.”

Like i said, let’s presume you we’re in our shoes.
So i got an even great idea.
Let’s go in reverse.
Glad we didn’t try that, though.

We reached the peak and and we fully enjoyed , what Top Gear called one of the best roads in the world.

Simply breathtaking !

After a lunch break at a gas station, my neurons come back to me and I couldn’t stop laughing.
Why the heck we didn’t try in 1st or 2nd gear.
:)

All made sense now, poor car, how can we expect it to climb a hill at that small speed with 3rd and 4th gear, it was a miracle that we didn’t stall the engine, a testimony that how flexible the power band with an inline 6 engine.
Not to forget that for every 100 meters in altitude you lose roughly 1 HP - less oxygen concentration.
So yeah, it’s safe to say the car is idiot proof.

One of the lost horse power. :)

Sibiu came ahead but we will come back to it in a future story.
It was getting late and we needed a place to stay.
We stopped in Alba Iulia and we said to our selves if we hear again the “shared bathroom” question, we sill sleep in the woods.
:)
But all was good.

The next day we continued with our new destination, Sighisoara.
Very beautiful city.

Time to get back home. We switched places so i can rest a little.
Again, excellent views all the way to Brasov.

Got home safe and sound, very happy that we made the perfect choice with the car and lucky that was still in good shape.
It passed every test in our book even when it took care of us.
The whole trip on one full gas tank ~ 80 Liters.
We averaged 9-10 % L/100 Km (UK ~ 30 MPG) for something this ‘old’, I’d say that is excellent.

Thus, E34, we salute you!

After a well deserved bath, time to rest because more road trips will come, now, that we’ve got the perfect weapon.
