Everything in this life is chaos.
Action and reaction.
One element of good chaos in our life is our rides.
Today we’re focusing on them because for us such machines they give us the ultimate freedom.
Our car, we had to give it away because bad times came with higher taxes, it was too hard even for 2 people contributing to maintain it and more dependent on dealerships (because it was a premium and complex car) etc.
I had to give it away practically for free because nobody will want it.
So the time came for a new chapter.
And what could be better and more pure than a motorcycle?
Adrian was the first to undertake this path.
He dreamt a long time for something like this.
I accompanied him while he did his driving school.
He looked like Marcus Phoenix here.
And here - Mr. Magoo.
After more experience he diced what he will get : Honda CBR 600 F4i.
We gathered as much info and feedback as we could, went to biker meetings, the whole deal.
Up until one morning when he calls me.
Dude, check your email. “I think I’ve found something.”
He found at a better price something even better: Yahama R1 from 2002
Looked amazing in the ad and freshly imported.
I already knew the answer: “Bro, take it !!!”
He called, finalized the deal.
It will be here the next day, Amazon Prime style, guess from where, Cluj.
30 hours later, it was in my driveway.
We unloaded it carefully, like a majestic creature captured and now became a war trophy.
Fire it up on the first try.
Adrian went for a small test drive.
He was wearing a white T-shirt.
When he came back, his face was whiter that the shirt.
And was shaking.
I understood everything, “wtf did we just buy ?!”
In school they don’t give you a pure speed racing machine not to mention that the ones they have are limited for obvious reasons.
So yeah, it appears that we got something really really bonkers and ignorance is bliss.
Nobody cared anymore about that Honda, this was on a whole new level.
Super Sport, 150 HP, 998 cc pure track racing fire breading speed demon.
And to put things in perspective, a Bugatti Veyron has 550 HP per tonne.
This thing had over 780 Hp/tone. !
This is madness, i tell you !
My curiosity with the technical stuff, we will get to that in the future more, i studied more and found even more fabulous stuff about our new ride.
It had 5 valves per cylinder from Yamaha racing program (last generation of R1s to have this) and it appeared that they used the same engineers that previously built in the early “90 for Ferrari’s F1 and road cars.
The F355 and F50 Supercar.
Now that’s heritage and racing pedigree.
Nothing beats pride of ownership.
And behold, in all its glory.
We salute you, Thy Mighty R1.
Please don’t kill us.
This became something we learned to respect, fear and love at the same time.
To master something like and the rewords after that, can’t be described in words.
Who’s into this stuff will understand.
He took me for a ride and showed me a glimpse of what the bike can do.
When i saw that it can do 0-60 Mph in under 3 seconds i started to scream like a little girl.
And that was only first gear !
On a track long enough with a hint of a tail wing, this thing will go ~ 190 Mph / 300 Km/h.
The sound on it is like this: KILL KILL KILL KILL
That’s it, i have to have one i said to myself.
On that later on.
It’s a very fine line of perception.
Like Einstein said, everything is relative - we don’t like this stuff because they are dangerous, fast, volatile like adrenaline junkies but is more than that because what you feel on it is something very pure and very relaxing, zen like state of mind.
Not to mention the man-machine connection, everything is about pure feedback on a transcendent level.
You can feel every stroke of the combustion process, how it breathes and sucks the air via its 4 independent throttle bodies.
Imagine that you are staying on top of something like this.
It teaches you to be calm but alert and to see in the future to anticipate what will happen.
If you close your eyes you are instantly in another place.
You never get on it if you are angry or mad.
This is only for happy days and positive feelings.
Thus we got our own Unicorn.
