Some size references with our famous ball point pen.

Z2_4

And then with the test subject, the Note 2.

Z2_5

Here we see how they did to triple the capacity vs the OEM Samsung battery, the hunchback of battery land.
The jokes aside, that is very good, because more battery capacity equals more psychical size increase, pretty logical but there are so many low quality and fakes ones on sale that it is easy to be fooled.

So this is the proper way how it’s done, shown by ZeroLemon.

So it is pretty obvious how it replaces the OEM one.

Z2_9

Z2_10

Then the supplied case.

Z2_11

It serves a purpose of both battery cover and some basic protection.
Unfortunately, NFC is not included.

The case itself is made out of typical semi-rigid material and has a very nice fitment with a phone, although you do get some pulling around sides typical for TPU material.

The finish of TPU case is matte with a nice non-slip ‘grippy’ texture that feels good in your hand and will provide some friction on the surface.

Very important since due to increased size and weight you would want to have a better grip. It also offers edge/lip for a screen protection when placed down.

Z2_13

Let’s proceed with the installation.

Fit snugly and very tight so no worries that will came off although the history of this release is that battery was available some time ago but initial batch of TPU cases was loose, so the decision was made to delay the release in order to fix the problem and to deliver 100% finished product.

So, yes we can confirm they did and no problems.

Ok, so these are the new total numbers of the phone with everything on.

The original Samsung OEM 3100 mAh battery is 75 mm x 56 mm x 5.6 mm (2.95″ x 2.18″ x 0.22″) and weight of 54g (1.9oz).
The new 9300 mAh is 110.8 mm x 71.6 mm x 6.2 mm (thinner side) / 12.9 mm (stacked up side) -> 4.36″ x 2.82″ x 0.24″ (thin) / 0.5″ (thicker side).

The weight of ZL9300 is 166g (5.9oz) and together with TPU case the Note 2 will have 330g (11.7oz) and thickness of 18.76mm.
In comparison, a naked Note 2 is 164g and thickness of 10.68mm.

It obviously makes phone heavier and beefier in your hand but personally i can hold it better in my hand.

Z2_16

Quality is excellent and as you can see everything is aligned right and no interference what so ever.

Z2_20

Z2_21

Z2_22

First boot and it has under 60 % battery left.

Z2_17

This step is important, need to leave it to charge for 12 hours, even if the phone notifies you after a few hours that it is charged, still leave it plugged in for an extra 4-5 hours at least.

Z2_18

And so you can see that it is accepting juice.

Testing

How we tested:

– Initial mandatory 12 hours charging time
– Basically tested it as my day to day phone in the same conditions as i did until now and these are:
– 15 minutes of calling / some texting / internet connection for 16 hours a day in which half is via wi-fi and the rest via my operator’s network (Giff-Gaff / O2 – 3G+/H+ connection) so a lot of browsing and finally 2-3 hours of movies/Tv shows.
– After the first discharging cycle (up until under 10 % battery left) let it charged and repeat for 3-4 time until optimal battery levels are reached.

The results

This is after the first cycle.

Z2_25

So first charge and pretty amazing results !
Compared to my original OEM which lasted me only 12 hours a day with only 3-4 hours of screen time, the numbers speak from themselves.

And then this is after 4 cycles, left it to drain at the same 14% level (when the Android warns you that the battery is low)

Z2_26

Absolutely amazing !
And got almost 4 days, i forgot that much times has pasted, because i was used to charge it at least 2 times a day.
So yes, a clear win here.

Conclusion

The good:

+ Superb autonomy
+ Excellent quality for the case and the battery cells
+ Highly welcomed the extra protection given by the case
+ The perfect solution for a long trip and or who needs the extra battery life.
+ Feels good in the hand

The bad:

– Maybe to big for most people but this is subjective
– Heavy no matter what
– You loose the NFC feature
– Longer charging times and cycles until it reaches maximum potential

Many thanks to ZeroLemon for supplying us with this sample !

Bought a 9300 mAh battery for my note 2 from zero lemon. Both have swelled up and failed. How do I get a (or both of them) replaced? I’m out a bit of money and like the battery not the failure!
